Description
The Mossburn Vintage Casks range are a collection of Single Malt Scotch Whiskies each issuing from a strictly limited and select batch of casks from some of Scotland’s most distinguished distilleries.
The Mossburn company of distillers and blenders will have a distillery in the Borders soon and are also the company behind the new and now operational Torabhaig distillery on Skye.
Each numbered release will only ever yield a finite number of bottles.
Release number 6 is a small batch Ardmore, one of the few Highland malts to be peated.
Aged for 9 years in American oak barrels that have previously held Islay single malt for added layers of peat smoke.
Distilled 2008 Bottled 30/11/2017 Bottled without any colouring or chill filtration.
Tasting Notes:
Nose: Grungey and vegetal with notes of saurkraut, oily and briney, coastal like and some smoked cheese and cured meats with fishing ropes, anchovy essence and smoked lime, sooty peat with some floral nuances.
Palate: Vegetal to begin (preserved peppers in olive oil) wet earth, smoked lime pickle, more of that spicy saurkraut/caraway seed like note from the nose, quite an oily body with smoked green fruit (apple cores and ripe pear) heather and gorse on a bonfire with a salty tang in here as well.
Finish: Sooty vanilla, smoked peppers in anchovy oil, dunnage warehouse, mossy and herbal, lime cordial, some late green fruit and peppery spice.
A funky coastal style peated Ardmore that is going to appeal to those who like a Ledaig or oily Islay malt.
